Schloss Cecilienhof (Potsdam, Germany)

Cecilienhof Palace is located in the northern part of the “Neuer Garten” (New Garden). The castle was commissioned by the last German Emperor, William II, and built from 1913 to 1917. Cecilienhof was the last palace that has been built by a German sovereign. It was named after the emperor’s daughter in law, duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin who was married to the crown prince, the emperor had the castle built for the couple. Prince William only lived in the castle for one year before he followed his father into exile; his wife lived in Cecilienhof until 1945. From July to August 1945 the Potsdam Conference, with Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee, Harry S Truman and Joseph Stalin as participants, was held here. The palace has 176 rooms, some of which have been altered for the Potsdam Conference.The private rooms of the heir to the throne and his wife are located on the first floor and can only be accessed if you take part in a guided tour. They are also only accessible via stairs; a lift for wheelchair user is not available. Cecilenhof Palace is part of the Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
