The city of Perth is the capital of Western Australia and as such, it is undeniably very remote from other major cities, such as Sydney, in the more populated eastern regions. In order to appreciate the size of just the domestic operation, consider that it’s an incredible and approximate five-hour flight to Sydney alone. Five hours! However, it doesn’t end there. As the country’s most western international airport, Perth has unique and busy access to and from a host of international airports. This airport is a crucial hub for Australia; regionally and internationally.
At Perth Airport There are no Flights of Fancy
Perth Airport has four terminals catering for domestic and international flights. Most internal flights arrive and depart from terminals 1 and 2, whilst 3 and 4 deal with international flights. This setup can be confusing for passengers and, whilst the airport states that it is only a 15-minute drive between 1 and 2, and 3 and 4; this is easier said than done. The advice is to study your flight information in advance and avoid any later confusion.
Feet back firmly on the ground, you’ll be pleased to find that the airport has impressive facilities including a children’s play area, foreign exchange, and some really nice catering outlets. The airport is surprisingly busy and quite large, but still not large enough to cater for all of Western Australia’s air traffic. Around 25 kilometres away, and still within the Perth boundary, there’s a second and smaller domestic flight airport at Jandakot.

It has been known for outgoing passengers to doss down in the airport itself, but this is short sighted and a far cry from some of the more comfortable yet still economically viable options. Within easy reach of the airport, you can, for instance, book sleeping pods at an hourly rate. From the Airport, Swim Down the River and Take a Peep at Perth
The suburbs of this unusually appealing city have wonderful sandy beaches on their doorsteps. The visitor will also love relaxing in the Kings Park riverside setting and the Botanic Garden. The arts feature prominently in the Perth lifestyle with a theatre and ballet and opera companies. Socially, there’s an eclectic range of restaurants, clubs and bars, so it is very tempting to stay in the city, particularly as the airport is so close by. There is, though, a word of financial caution. Depending on where you are staying, the tip is, wherever possible, to use public transport rather than the taxi. The former is good, reliable, and a fraction of the taxi cost.
