Museum of Science and Industry (Tampa, USA)

Tampas Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) has the declared aim of advancing public interest, knowledge and understanding of science, industry and technology. Based in North Tampa it has been in development over 40 years. Its futuristic domed building houses three floors of permanent exhibits and an IMAX theatre. Appealing to adults and children alike its displays include the Diplodocus Dinosaurs (with complete skeletons), The Amazing You (an interactive exploration of the human body), a Gulf Coast hurricane (experience 74mph winds) and a Jet Fighter Simulator. The upper floor houses a planetarium staffed by astronomers. In the grounds is “The Back Woods” which demonstrates local flora and fauna. It includes a sink hole, gopher tortoises (a protected species) among communities of pine flat woods, turkey oak sandhills, oak hammocks and wetlands. There is also a butterfly garden. The museum recommends allowing at least four hours for a visit. Entry prices include one film showing at the IMAX theatre. There is free parking on site and the museum is accessible to wheelchairs. Opening hours: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. DAILY Tickets: $19.95 adults $17.95 seniors (60+) $15.95 children (2 - 12 years) (includes “Kids in Charge!”and “Disasterville” exhibits galleries and one standard IMAX Dome Theatre film)
