The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are in the Edgbaston district of the city and were first opened in 1832. In total visitors will find 15 acres of gardens and glasshouses as well as aviaries and shops selling gifts and plants. Refreshments are also available. For the children there is an adventure playground as well as a ‘discovery’ garden. Disabled access is good across the site. Entrance prices are £6.50 for adults and £4.00 for children, OAPs, students, disabled people and their helpers. Children under 5 are allowed in free. Opening hours are from 9 am to 7 pm from April to September and from 9 am to 5 pm or dusk during the rest of the year. The gardens are open daily and closed only on Christmas Day.
