The O2 Arena (London, United Kingdom)

Welcome to The O2 Arena!

Originally conceived as the ill-fated Millenium Dome, The O2 Arena in southeast London has thrown off its original guise of turn-of-the-century exhibition centre and fully embraced its new role as planet Earth’s premier concert venue!

Capable of seating 20,000 concert goers, The O2 Arena capacity is second only to the Manchester Arena in the coveted ‘largest UK indoor arena’ stakes. And, just like the Manchester Arena, The O2’s versatile seating arrangement can be adapted to accommodate any show, a feature which innovative and visionary performers the world over admire greatly.

Set on the banks of the River Thames in Greenwich, the O2 London is an easy place to reach, with frequent bus, river boat, and Underground (“Tube”) train services all on hand. There’s even a cross-river cable car. The Underground tends to be the most convenient option though as the nearest Tube to the O2 (North Greenwich) is only a brief stroll away.

Things to do at The O2 Arena

Upon arriving, you soon realise there’s far more to this vast entertainment complex than just O2 Arena events. Along with restaurants and bars, a large ten-pin bowling centre and state-of-the-art cinema complex are on hand to help you pass the time before your gig starts. If you’re after something more substantial however then by all means book a place at the O2’s newest entertainment offering, Mamma Mia! The Party. Innovative and immersive in equal measure, this irresistible theatrical and dining experience based on the hit film plonks you and your fellow diners in a recreated Greek taverna where Nikos (the owner) and his family invite you to join them for a riotous night of feasting, singing and dancing. If uplifting shows, three-course Mediterranean meals and ABBA discos are your thing, you’ll certainly be in your element here!

If you have a head for heights and are a sucker for a view then be sure to sign-up for the exhilarating ‘Up at The O2’ tour. Led by expert climbing guides, this exhilarating 90-minute experience takes you up, onto, and over the landmark dome’s arcing roof where stunning cityscape vistas await. Sunset climbs are pretty spectacular.

O2 Arena Hotels

With Greenwich and nearby Canary Wharf both home to a wealth of accommodation options, finding hotels near The O2 Arena is pretty straightforward.

Boasting a covered walkway linking it directly to the arena complex, the InterContinental London - The O2 is in a league of its own in pure convenience terms. And if that isn’t enough, this top-end offering overlooking the river also boasts a swish restaurant, a spa, and a cool rooftop bar. Nice.

Just across the river on the north bank of the Thames is the Radisson Blu Edwardian, New Providence Wharf. We like it because, along with a stylish restaurant, snazzy cocktail lounge and decadent spa, this sleek property in Poplar also lays on free local shuttle services. Very handy.

Along with the many upscale offerings, there are a quite a few wallet-friendly hotels to be found in the general area. Our pick however would have to be The Britannia International, along with its standout location in the heart of Canary Wharf, it offers a wealth of on-site dining and drinking options, including an Indian restaurant, a pizzeria and a pub. There’s even an indoor pool.
