Durban House Heritage Centre (Eastwood, United Kingdom)

Durban House is the home of the D. H. Lawrence Heritage centre. It has an exhibition depicting the Victorian past of Lawrence’s mining hometown and The Rainbow Gallery is a changing exhibition space for contemporary art within Durban House for professional and community groups. In addition to the exhibitions there is an arts and crafts gift shop. The building itself was built in 1876 and has had various uses over the years, before it was bought and restored by Broxtowe Borough Council in 1995. The house is open daily from 10am, closing at 5pm from April to October and at 4pm from November to March. Admission is free to all from Monday to Friday and free to Broxtowe Borough Council residents every day. Otherwise prices are: Single Site (admission to either the Birthplace Museum or Durban House): Adult - £2.00 Child/ Concessions - £1.20 2 Adults and 2 Children - £5.80 (Tickets are valid for one month) Joint Ticket (admission to both The Birthplace Museum and Durban House): Adult - £3.50 Child/ Concessions - £1.80 2 Adults and 2 Children - £8.00 (Tickets are valid for one month) In addition to the exhibitions, Durban House has a restaurant called the Rocking Horse Bistro which is open Sunday to Friday 11am - 3pm. The house is also a licenced civil weddings venue, offers conference facilities and can accomodate christenings/naming days and funeral wakes.
