Positive Reviews
positive:
Lovely rooms with country views.
Most guests find the rooms to be sparkling clean, with comfortable furnishings and plenty of space. Many rave about the romantic country views from their windows, particularly of the golf course or fountain. Several guests were awed by the 13th century building, noting its stately facade and beautifully landscaped grounds look very "expensive", but, happily, many also find the nightly rates do not live up to this impression.
positive:
Warm, welcoming staff.
Most guests give the front desk and housekeeping staff rave reviews for their exceptionally professional, yet warm and cheerful customer service, noting that "nothing is too much trouble" for them. Guests also send their compliments to the chef; the hot breakfast buffet is a "feast" with omelets cooked to order, and the wait staff get high marks for friendly, attentive service.
positive:
So much to do...
Though the hotel isn't far from Derby or Manchester, many find they've no need to leave to entertain themselves, with two fine golf courses, a spa with an extensive array of services, and hairdresser on site, as well as a "pristine" pool, whirlpool, and sauna.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Long walks...
Some of the rooms are a fair distance from the main building, not ideal for guests with mobility concerns as they are faced with walking outside or up and down several staircases to get to reception or the restaurants.
negative:
Free Wi-Fi does not come standard.
Wi-Fi is chargeable in the standard rooms. However, it is included in Superior Rooms. It is also free for members of the chain's loyalty program, and membership is free.
negative:
Kids in the pool...
A few guests staying for the spa services were disappointed in the walk from one treatment to the next, or by the number of happy kids in the pool while they were there.
