Tian Tan - Temple of Heaven (Beijing, China)

Tian Tan (The Temple of Heaven) was built sometime between 1406 and 1420 and it became a World Heritage site in 1998. The site was turned into a park and in 1912 The Temple of Heaven was opened to the public. The 3 main attractions in the park, which covers 2.73 km square, include YuanQiuTan (The Altar of Heaven), HuangQiongYu (Imperial Vault of Heaven) and QinianDian (The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests). The buildings and structures reflect the religious beliefs of the 15th Century Chinese who believed the sky to be round and the Earth flat.
