Positive Reviews
positive:
A good choice for tourists...
Sightseers generally like the holel's location within a comfortable walking distance of Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Temple of Heaven. The New World shopping centre and the Glory Mall are also easily accessible on foot, and the Chongwenmen subway station (line 2 and line 5) is right out front. It's very convenient to the train station, too.
positive:
Try the Peking Duck...
Few guests seem to go hungry at this hotel, which offers four restaurants. The breakfast buffet offers an abundant variety of Asian and Western dishes, and is popular, though quite expensive. The Peking Duck is reportedly delicious, and, like the rest of the menu at the Utopia Restaurant, reasonably priced as well. There is a bakery next door and a few restaurants within the neighbourhood, too.
positive:
A quiet spot to lounge...
Guests who upgrade to the Executive level enjoy having access to the comfortable private lounge; though the breakfast buffet served there is not as varied, the atmosphere is much quieter than the restaurant, and the evening happy hour is a nice bonus as well.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Going out of style...
Many recent guests comment that the hotel is due for refurbishment, with visible wear and tear in the rooms and hallways as well as dated decor.
negative:
Brush up on your Chinese...
Though many guests have described the staff as friendly and professional, others have been disappointed with the overall level of customer service in both the restaurants and at the front desk. International travellers also find that some of the receptionists are not fully fluent in English.
negative:
Secondhand smoking rooms...
Cigarette odour in non-smoking rooms is a frequently reported issue, and some guests have been let down by oversights in housekeeping.
