The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery is located in the centre of Stoke on Trent and claims to be the home of the world’s greatest collection of Staffordshire ceramics. More than 5000 items are on display and illustrate the history and development of the local pottery industry. The museum also has a Mk XVI Spitfire aircraft dating to 1945. The plane was originally designed by Reginald Mitchell who was born in the Potteries. The museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Sunday from 2pm to 5pm. Admission is free
