Sentosa (Singapore, Singapore)
Get into the State of Fun
A stunning tropical island just off the southern coast of Singapore, Sentosa is known as “the State of Fun” for the tempting array of resort hotels, theme parks, and other thrilling attractions nestled within its vivid green mountain tops and sugary white shoreline. There are many ways to get there; you can walk, cycle, or drive across the bridge connecting Sentosa Island and mainland Singapore CBD, or, for a truly unforgettable view, take a cable car from Vivo City.
Take Your Pick of Three Gorgeous Beaches
There are three main beaches on Sentosa Island, and which one you choose will depend on what you love best in a beach day. Looking to see and be seen? Head to Siloso Beach; easily the busiest of the three, Silosa Beach is the place to be if your ideal beach day includes riding the waves on a Flowboard, joining a game of ultimate frisbee, and partying after dark at a hip beachfront bar. Bringing the kids along? Your best bet is Palawan Beach. Sprinkled with playgrounds and peaceful lagoons, Palawan is perfect for young families. Hoping to unwind in the shade of a palm tree? Try Tanjong Beach; the most tranquil of the three, it is also one of the best places to try stand-up paddle-boarding or paddle yoga.
Choose Your Own Adventure
Thrill-seeking travellers are spoiled for choice on Sentosa Island. Here you can fly through the treetops on the steepest zipline in Southeast Asia, soar above the South China Sea with iFly Singapore, or brave some of the tallest duelling roller coasters on the planet. The jaw-dropping coasters are just one of many exhilarating attractions at Universal Studios Sentosa, which is itself a part of Resorts World Sentosa; the massive integrated resort also includes two casinos and a spectacular aquarium. The S.E.A. Aquarium is among the largest oceanariums in the world, featuring over 100,000 underwater animals and over 50 habitats. Outdoorsy types can also go wild on the Sentosa Nature Discovery trail, or visit the Butterfly Park & Insect kingdom, home to over 1500 live butterflies.
So Many Dreamy Places to Sleep
Sentosa Island features many types of accommodation, from family-friendly resorts set in and around the theme parks to beautiful beachfront hotels more suited to romantic getaways. If a stylish villa with a private plunge pool is what you are looking for, try the Capella Singapore or the Sofitel Singapore Sentosa, two of the many luxurious options on the island. Boaters can come ashore for the night at ONE°15 Marina Club, an upscale hotel with yacht charters, while shark enthusiasts can have a sleepover with the fishes: the S.E.A. Aquarium offers overnight accommodation in tents inside the Open Ocean Gallery.
