Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station (Edinburgh, United Kingdom)
Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station is Where the Adventure Begins
Sometimes known simply as Waverley, or Edinburgh Station; Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station is the city’s largest train station and is the destination point for most trains to Edinburgh. Waverley Railway Station is in the West End, city centre area and, on a daily basis; it welcomes legions of commuters and long-haul passengers. Significantly, those in the latter category are delighted to find that not only are there many hotels near the station, but that these are only a short walk away from the popular tourist attractions.
Look Down on Edinburgh in Complete Admiration
One of the first things you’ll note is, thankfully, how compact the city centre is. Here, famous highlights include visits to Holyrood House and Edinburgh Castle; followed, perhaps, by a wee dram or two in one of the many charismatic pubs around the Royal Mile. It’s always good to go off the beaten track to sample some of the less obvious delights. So, it’s well worth the approximate four mile trip to Lauriston Castle with its hidden rooms and staircases.
Known as The Athens of the North, this Edinburgh accolade is best appreciated from Calton Hill’s Old City Observatory. It is only a few hundred yards from Edinburgh Railway Station and from here you can look down on the splendid views that the city has to offer. You can probably even see your city centre hotel from the Observatory. Why aren’t they waving back?
Services at Waverley Station are Designed to Make Your Life Easier
Public Wi-Fi, shops, and pay phones are among the on-site services at Edinburgh Railway Station. Services also include car parking, and covered cycle storage areas that are reassuringly covered by CCTV. The taxis on Market Street can be accessed via lifts and taxis are also found on Waverley Bridge. If you need to access Waverley, Haymarket, or Edinburgh Park Station from Edinburgh Airport, which is around eight miles away, you’ll need to use bus and tram links for the approximate 30-minute journey.
The city’s main bus station is approximately 500 yards from Waverley Station. Walking around the city centre itself is, though, relatively easy for most people, because of its compact layout.
There are Hotels With High Spirits Near Edinburgh Train Station
Royal Mile Apartments, Aparthotel Adagio, and the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel are among the accommodation choices that are within a matter of a few hundred yards of one of the most famous and prestigious streets in the UK, The Royal Mile. George Street is pretty desirable too and is only about half a mile from Waverley Railway Station. Accommodation in this area includes the apartments of Hanover 71 Suites, and The Principal Hotel. The centrally located Old Waverley Hotel is known for providing classic accommodation and, just a few yards away, ghost bus tours take you on an eye-opening trip around Edinburgh.
Expect to find that the further away from the city centre you venture, the less expensive the accommodation becomes. Exceptions include hostels such as the Safestay which is quite close to Waverley station. However, even the most spirited attempts to find the right hotel can be fraught with problems; but not if you first visit trivago.
