Manly Beach (Sydney, Australia)
Manly Beach: A Sand and Surf Paradise
While Sydney has a plethora of glorious beaches at its disposal, there’s one which deservedly has a seat at the top table: Manly Beach. This popular stretch of golden, velvet-like sand is a three-kilometre beacon for everyone from surfing enthusiasts to those who simply want to relax and unwind on the beach. This area isn’t simply a beach, either. Manly Beach is home to a healthy collection of beachside restaurants, bars and quaint cafes. Plus the climate and location make it the ideal destination for various outdoor activities, including diving, picturesque bicycle rides, and lively barbecues.
The Weather for Surfing
When judging the main allures of Manly Beach, the weather is among the main reasons why tourists from around the world visit the area. Sydney is renowned as a year-round place for wonderful sunshine, a climate which is great for the likes of swimming or simply lazing around on the beach. Although for the perfect time to make the most of outdoor amenities at Manly Beach, a visit during summer – which is between December and February – is highly recommended. The area is also particularly notable for surfing. Back to being the host for the very first surfing world championship in 1964, Manly Beach has idyllic conditions for hitting the waves. This is why it is home to Vissla Sydney Surf Pro, an annual March event where enthusiasts can enjoy watching some of the world’s best surfers compete against each other.
Sand, Shopping and Scenic Strolls
As it possesses one of the best Northern Beaches in Sydney, it’s hard not to focus on Manly Beach’s, well, beach. Yet it isn’t the only sandy haven in the area. A short, scenic walk south from the main street is Shelly Beach, a sheltered and stunning area in Manly which is popular for picnics, diving and snorkelling. Speaking of the main street, this is known as The Corso. Expansive and benefitting from a relaxed atmosphere, this pedestrian-only strip is lined with palm trees, bars, dining options, and dozens of shops. For those wanting to scuba dive or surf, the area is home to Dive Centre Manly and Manly Surf School respectively.
Staying by the Beach
When it comes to Manly Beach accommodation, there isn’t a shortage of places to stay in the area. From cosy lodge retreats to upmarket Manly apartment rentals overlooking the sea, every budget and requirement is covered for travellers.
