City Lodge is centrally located with many attractions as well as local cafes, restaurants, bars and shopping areas being within easy walking distance. The Auckland Art Gallery, Federal Street, Queen Street and Skycity can be reached within 15-minutes by foot. Viaduct Harbour is a 22-minute walk away.
The staff are friendly. helpful, accommodating and knowledgeable about the city. Tours and ticket information and assistance are readily provided.
The rooms are quiet, clean, well presented and simply furnished with all the basic necessities such as a comfortable bed, desk and private bathroom. The shared kitchen is also spacious and well equipped for guests who wish to prepare their own meals.
Some rooms are small with minimal storage space and compact bathrooms and some guests reported feeling cramped. The rooms also do not have air conditioning which, combined with the small space, made the rooms hot and stuffy particularly during the warmer months. Fans are provided but do not seem to be effective in keeping the rooms cool.
Some guests were displeased with being charged for Wi-Fi (which some found to be expensive) and parking which they felt were services that should be included in the price of the room. If you have a car, it is also recommended that you reserve a car parking spot as places are limited and street parking may be difficult to find.
City Lodge is set on a busy road. While many guests found the premises to be quite, a few guests which had rooms facing the main road found the noise of traffic to be disturbing.
