Plimoth Plantation (Plymouth, USA)
Plimoth Plantation is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution. There are four major exhibits on the site. At the Wampanoag Homesite visitors can explore the living conditions of the Wampanoag people, who have lived in this area since 12.000 years, during the 17th century. Costumed role players will bring history to life in the English Village. The actors impersonate real people who have lived in this colony in 1627 and each will tell you the story how it was to be a pilgrim in an early settlement. The actors will fulfill the daily chores a settler of the 17th century would have and visitors are welcome to ask questions or lend a hand. At the craft center you can see how things were made, using the same materials, tools and techniques of tradesmen from the 17th century. The Mayflower II is a replica of the original Mayflower and you can explore the whole ship, meet the “crew” and get a feeling for the conditions in which the first settler had to travel. Further there is a barn with rare breeds of livestock, a visitor centre, gift shop, cinema and much more. The restaurant at Plimoth Plantation does not only sport meeting facilities but also some original 17th century specialities such as Mayflower Golden Ale. Plimoth Plantation is open from end of March to end of November, for admission fees please visit the website.
