Phobjikha Valley (Phobjikha, Bhutan)

Phobjikha Valley is a glacial valley that is a designated conservation area. It’s best-known as the winter home to a large flock of rare black-necked cranes whose presence is celebrated with a festival at the nearby village of Gangte. In addition to the cranes, Phobjikha has muntjac deers, sambar deers, Himalayan black bears, wild boars and leopards. In order to protect the cranes’ home and to avoid disturbing them, the valley has no mains electricity or telephones and all energy is provided by solar power or small hydro plants.
