The Mathew Street Music Festival is a music festival in Liverpool where it has been an annual event since 1992. The two day event is held over the August Bank Holiday Weekend and includes over 80 hours of live music with bands playing on six different stages. The event is free to attend and attracts around 350, 000 people, making it the largest free music event in Europe. Coinciding with the Mathew Street Music Festival is the Mathew Street Fringe Festival, which was established in 2007. Mathew Street is where the Cavern Club can be found and is often referred to as the “Birthplace of the Beatles”. The festival always includes a tribute to The Beatles. The Mathew Street Music Festival is organised by Culture Liverpool in conjunction with Liverpool City Council. Catering facilities are provided in the form of numerous fast food outlets and there are portable toilets and first aid posts.
