Casa Loma (Toronto, Canada)

Casa Loma dates from 1903 when Sir Henry Pellatt bought the land and hired architect E J Lennox to design it. Work started in 1911 and cost approximately $3.5 million to built, it was completed in 1914. At 98 rooms, it was the largest private residence in Canada. Sir Henry and this wife Lady Mary enjoyed life in the house for just 10 years, leaving in 1923. The house was then a hotel, and nightclub before falling into disrepair. It was seized by the city in 1937. There are 5 acres of gardens and today it is a historical museum. On the main floor there is the Great Hall, Library, Dining Room, Conservatory, Serving Room, Peacock Alley, Sir Henry’s Study, Smoking Room, Billiards Room and Oak Room. Second floor has Sir Henry’s Suite, Sir Henry’s Bathroom, Lady Pellatt’s Suite,. Lady Pellatt’s Bathroom, Girl Guides Exhibit, Guest Suite, Windsor Room and Round Room The 3rd floor Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada Regimental Museum, Stairs to Towers, The Kiwanis Room, The Garden Room, Servant’s Room and the Austin Room. Basement houses the Gift Shop and Castle Café. Opening times open daily 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 pm closed xmas. Admission prices Adult 18 $ (11.60 euros) child $10.50 (6.77 euros)
