Guests looking for an inexpensive and comfortable place to stay were satisfied with the Owston Motel. While it does not offer the extras found in hotels and higher priced establishments, guests felt it offered good value for their money and described it as clean and tidy and perfectly adequate for an overnight stay.

Once a rustic farm building, the Owston Motel still retains a lot of rural character. Guests appreciated the surrounding countryside and well kept grounds. Those arriving from the nearby A19 motorway, recommended the motel as a good place for a stopover.

Some guests thought the Owston Hotel could use a good spring clean. They reported dirty carpets, tattered shower curtains, dust and mould. Thin and sagging mattresses, some with springs poking through, less than adequate showers and doors that didn’t lock properly caused some guests to say they wouldn’t be back. The TVs in the rooms are overdue for retirement according to some guests, others complained that the remotes were grubby and didn’t work properly.

Wi-Fi access at the Owston Motel was weak to non-existent according to many guests who reported that the staff seemed unable, or unwilling to resolve the problem.

The Owston Hotel is in a rural setting which is very dark at night and some guests thought it could use more outside lighting or sensor lights. Some said they had to use the light from mobile phone screens to see where they were going. Guests also complained that the motel’s sign is poorly lit and difficult to see from the road.
