Ujung Kulon National Park (Pandeglang, Indonesia)

Ujung Kulon National Park is located in the extreme south-western tip of Java on the Sunda shelf. It includes Ujung Kulon peninsula, volcanic island group of Krakatoa natural reserve and other islands. Most of its 1,206 km2 area (of which 443 km2 is marine) lies on a peninsula. The Ujung Kulon National Park’s significance is multiple: in addition to its natural beauty and geological interest (inland volcanoes) and the largest remaining area of lowland rainforests in the Java plain, it is a home for several species of endangered plants and animals. As a highlight, it is also one of only two homes of the critically endangered Javan Rhinoceros. It is Indonesia’s first national park and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its significance in containing the largest remaining lowland rainforest in Java.
