Sibiloi National Park (Marsabit, Kenya)

The park lies on the northeastern shore of Lake Turkana and was established in 1973 to protect prehistoric and archeological sites linked to the origin of man. Fossils of crocodiles, giant tortoise and elephants have been found in this dry semi desert bush. Wildlife includes crocodile, flamingoes, zebra, giraffe, hippo, pellicans. One of the major attraction of the park is the Koobi Fora archeological site that preserves numerous fossils of terrestrial mammals, including early hominin species. The park covers 1,570km² and was listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 as a part of Lake Turkana National Parks.
