    Isle Royale is an island national park in Lake Superior. It is the largest island in the largest freshwater lake in the world. Park headquarters are 77 miles away in Houghton, Michigan. Access to the national park is via seaplane or boats only. Public ferries are available from three points, Grand Portage, Minnesota; Houghton, Michigan and Copper Harbor, Michigan. Transit time from Houghton is 6.5 hours Entrance fee is $4 per day. However there are additional fees for the ferry trip. The park requires backcountry camping permits for any overnight stays.
