Durban Botanic Gardens (Durban, South Africa)

Dating from 1851, the Durban Botanic Gardens are the oldest remaining botanic gardens on the continent. It covers approximately 15ha. and focuses primarily on sub-tropical vegetation. Facilities include a tea garden and visitors complex with conference facilities and a gift shop. Concerts and other events are presented occasionally and there is also an Orchid House which opens daily from 09h30 to 17h00. Entrance is free and there is a small lake which is recommended for birdwatching. The gardens open daily from 07h30 to 17h15 (mid April to mid September) and from 07h30 to 17h45 the rest of the year.
