The Royal Castle Hotel (Dartmouth, United Kingdom)

Built in the 17th century, Royal Castle has a long history as a hotel and still retains some of its original character. It’s quirky and old world, and it really makes a change from some of the more modern and sterile hotels out there.

Situated right on Dartmouth Harbour, with boats bobbing up and down on the water outside the front doors, this hotel puts you in the best position to enjoy everything Dartmouth has to offer.

The staff here go above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to customer service. No request is too big or small, and you’ll always feel like a valued customer.

Unfortunately not all the rooms are created equal here, and you might get stuck with one of the small rooms. If you feel the room is simply too small for you then ask straight away at reception for an alternative.

There is no lift at this hotel, and all of the rooms are located on the upper floors of the building. If you find yourself given one of the rooms on the top floor be prepared for a bit of a climb.

From sandwiches fit for a child’s lunchbox and reheated bangers and mash, the kitchen here really needs to get its act together. You may prefer to try the other restaurants in Dartmouth than dine at Royal Castle.
