Prime Sightseeing Location
If you're in Boston to do some sightseeing, this hotel occupies an excellent location for just that. You're nearby to the Freedom Trail, Boston Commons, and Charles St. You're also within walking distance to shopping and historical sites, and there's a subway station right across the street. Many great restaurants are nearby in Beacon Hill.

Historic Hotel
This hotel is steeped in history, as the building was built in the 1800s and was used as a penitentiary until 1991. Because of this, it has very interesting architectural features which history buffs will love.

Negative Reviews
negative:
Lobby is a Hot Spot
The lobby area turns into a popular nightspot that the public is invited to join, leading to a crowded and noisy lobby with non-hotel guests as well. Noise lasts well into the night and because of the courtyard style set-up, some rooms can hear it, and if you are coming back into the hotel late at night, you have to move through all of these people. A quiet nightcap is near impossible.
negative:
Housekeeping Issues
Guests say housekeeping can be improved. While everything is clean, they often forget to replace towels and have a hard time getting rooms cleaned in a timely fashion.
negative:
Rooms Need an Update
Guests say rooms seem unfinished, dark, and dreary. Carpets are worn and linens are outdated.
