The budget Batman Fawkner , set within an early 19th century brick building in Launceston, has no link with any comic book super-hero. It is named after its creator (John Fawkner) and the man who, within its walls, planned the settlement that became Melbourne: John Batman. The hotel has a variety of en-suite bedrooms, including family and backpacker dormitories. All have reversible air-conditioning, refrigerator, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Guests can get to know each other in the communal lounge and TV area. There are also vending machines available. Batman Fawkner also provides a shared kitchen and dining area for guests to prepare meals. There is a cafe nearby and lots of places to eat out in central Launceston. All of the city's main sights, including Tasmania's premier shopping precinct and City Park are within a few minutes walk. The famous Cataract Gorge is just ten minutes away.

You don't have to sacrifice a prime location to benefit from the hotel's super rates. Guests verify that the town centre and all its attractions are just a short walk away.
Guests appreciate the historical building in which the hotel is set. The place is bursting with character.
Whilst the hotel forewarns guests in its booking conditions and upon arrival of the probability of disturbances from the adjoining nightclub, it doesn't really help guests get a better night sleep. Certain rooms are directly above the club, whilst others still hear loud music until the early hours. Whilst some guests can put up with this, when they remind themselves how much they have paid for their room, for others nothing can make up for a bad night's sleep.Even on the nights when the nightclub isn't open, a good night's sleep is far from guaranteed. Guests complain about loud church bells ringing throughout the night, street noise and disturbances from other guests due to the poor sound insulation.
Guests point out that only limited free access is given to the Wi-Fi. This is so slow and difficult to access that you may prefer to find a connection elsewhere.
You have to be extremely fortunate to find a space in the hotel's limited parking area. According to guests, you will also need to have a small car to be able to manoeuvre and park in this tight area. If you're not lucky enough to get a place, you may have to pay extra to park near the hotel.
