Positive Reviews
positive:
Beachcombing and sunbathing across the street
Staying in Newport, Rhode Island, clearly you'll want to be near the beach. Fortunately, at the hotel, you'll not only be able to see the coast from your room (specific rooms only), but you're also a brief stroll from several beaches, including Newport's First Beach.
positive:
Spacious suites
There are hotel rooms, and then there are suites. While the general rooms at Newport Beach Hotel & Suites are comfortable and filled with fine amenities, the recently constructed suites next door are substantial and offer a full kitchen and a patio or balcony.
positive:
Rooftop hot tub
After a long business meeting or a extensive day of sightseeing, you can kick back in the hotel's rooftop hot tub and soak away the day's weariness, all while enjoying a lovely view of Newport Pond across the way.
Negative Reviews
negative:
No food or drinks on site
While some websites still advertise the hotel as having a restaurant and bar, both have since closed. However, guests of either the suite or standard rooms have access to a refrigerator and picnic area, while those in the suites have a full kitchen at their disposal. There are also scores of cafés and restaurants in the area.
negative:
Overpriced for the perks
Despite the prime location (save for the traffic) and the beach views, some prior visitors felt that, between the small rooms, the parking fees, and the limited services available, the hotel was a touch overpriced.
negative:
Beware of late check-in time
As noted by a number of guests, the hotel has a late afternoon check in time, especially for those who booked their rooms indirectly. Rather than emailing the hotel, you may wish to call the front desk directly before scheduling your trip in order to make sure you fall within their window of operations.
