Great place for a short stay along the coastline
The hotel is perfectly located for being right near the Santa Cruz coastline. It provides quaint accommodations where you can smell the ocean air, and if you have an upgraded suite, get a closer view of the sea. You can walk to several sites of local interest, and get to other popular venues within a short drive.

Fresh and ample breakfast to start the day with
With free breakfasts common at many hotels, it's easy to not be that impressed. The morning offerings here though are quite ample and filling, and the ingredients and selections are fresh and appealing. Waking up at the beach is complemented by a nice meal to get the day going.
positive:
Lovely clean accommodations meet expectations
Crisp and clean linens, fixtures, décor, and furnishings well define the expectations for a beach stay. Rio Sands Motel has everything you need for a pleasant stay, and the ambience keeps you feeling comfortable, relaxed, and in the mood for beach explorations and fun.

negative:
You can hear everything because of thin walls
Be prepared to hear guests and staff through the walls. Conversations, doors, foot movements, and bathroom water use and toilet flushing are heard through the walls. Have ear plugs handy.
negative:
Outdated and worn looking furnishings disappoint
The rooms and décor should be brighter and newer for the location and price. A makeover all over would benefit the facilities and create greater appeal for choosing this place for a vacation stay.
negative:
There shouldn't be a fee for kitchen ware
Utensils and cookware for the kitchens incur a fee, which guests take as an insult. You're welcome to bring your own stuff, but for those who want the convenience of onsite amenities, be aware that you have to pay extra.
