Hotel Ocean Club 801 (Biloxi, USA)

The accommodation has lots of space and is extremely clean and comfortable. No worries in the kitchen area either. It’s very impressive and fully equipped with everything you are likely to need. Truly ‘self-contained’, there’s even a laundry room with a washer and dryer. The bathroom is impressive, beds are comfy and bed linen is of good quality. Excellent accommodation.    

Members of staff are really friendly and very helpful. The place is ultra-secure, so you need to have your key with you at all times. A bit of a pain – but a reassuring one. ‘They’ say that this is the safest place to park in the whole of Mississippi!          

The beach is just across the road and the water is better for kids than it is for surfing or other sports. The on-site pool is a welcome alternative.

Can’t complain about the beach front location but the beach itself leaves much to be desired. There’s a lot of uncollected rubbish and the water and clay-type sand have an unpleasant smell. Some say that this is due to it being near the mouth of the Mississippi River. Whatever the reason, the beach is not a major attraction here.    

Criminal activity must be virtually nil because all police efforts seem to be centered on enforcing the speed limit … so, watch it! Assigned parking spaces are very small and parking is a very difficult exercise.    

There’s very little restaurant choice and what there is seems not very inspiring and pretty mundane. Some condos have great sea-views, whilst others might overlook the dead centre of Biloxi … the cemetery. No noisy neighbours though!
