positive:
Luxurious, modern rooms...
Guests rave about the interior decor in the guest rooms, which celebrates the city's famous chocolate heritage. The look is often as quirky, beautiful, and fun. Many enjoy a terrific night's sleep in the exceptionally comfortable, king-size beds, and the showers are widely considered luxurious. The courtesy fridge, replenished daily with bottled water, milk, and chocolate, is the icing on the cake.
positive:
An ideal location for sightseers...
Travellers also love the hotel's location on one of York's oldest streets, now home to excellent cafes, restaurants, and boutique shops. A good number of the city's top attractions (the York Castle, Minster, Shambles, and National Railway Museum, to name just a few) are within walking distance, too.
positive:
A warm welcome to Yorkshire...
The staff receive top marks for their hospitality, with guests generally describing them as helpful, friendly, and enthusiastic about their duties, pleased to provide maps and make sightseeing or restaurant recommendations to new visitors. The housekeeping staff maintain a very high standard of service as well.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Smaller than you'd think...
Guests comment that the rooms are smaller than they appear in the professional photographs on the hotel website, and there is some confusion about the bed sizes as well, with guests often asserting that, contrary to the advertising, they aren't "true kings."
negative:
Noisy neighbours...
Guests have been kept up late by the bars neighbouring the hotel, and the sound insulation between rooms isn't perfect, either, as the hardwood flooring amplifies high-heeled footsteps.
negative:
Nobody's perfect...
Though the staff receive overwhelmingly positive reviews, guests have reported unsatisfactory responses to reported issues with the room and restaurant, as well as the odd booking mishap or unfriendly face at the front desk.
