Hôtel Château Cléry (Hesdin-l'Abbé, France)

The four star Hotel Cléry in Hesdin l’Abbé, near Boulogne, is in the former Château of Hesdin l’Abbé, dating from 1766 and named after the local businessman who had it built. When Napoleon was preparing to invade England in 1804, General Berthier was lodged here and it is thought almost certain that Napoleon visited him in the Château. Now it offers 27 rooms, all individually decorated in traditional style and with all modern comforts. Accommodation is either in the main house or in two outlying buildings, the Cottage and the Little Farmhouse. Rooms are categorised as Charming, Privilege, Luxury and Junior Suite. The restaurant Le Berthier has a local renown. It comprises three dining rooms, including one with large windows overlooking the park and which opens out on to a veranda. Three conference rooms are available for corporate events. The hotel has a fitness centre and sauna on-site, and is surrounded by a 12 acre park of gardens and woodland. Boulogne is 10 km away, and there are water sports facilities at Hardelot and Le Touquet on the Channel coast nearby.
