Hotel Conde de Penalba (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic)

The hotel is right in the center of the old colonial town. There are plenty of attractions nearby such as churches, museums, Christopher Columbus Park, and colonial monuments. There are several places to eat/drink out near the hotel, too.

The staff at this hotel is very friendly and helpful. They'll direct you to nearby attractions, as well as help make travel arrangements to or from the airport (or any other place you may need to go).

This is the inevitable negative side of staying close to the center of such an active city. There is a lot of noise coming from the streets - even at odd hours of the night - ranging from passing cars to street entertainers.

There is no elevator in the here. So unless you are staying on the ground floor, any heavy luggage will prove to be a liability.

The rooms and the bathrooms are not the largest. If you're more than two in your room, getting around will be difficult. The hotel also doesn't offer free drinking water; you have to either buy your own or use the pricey ones in the minibar.
