The exterior of the Timbers Hotel does not do it justice, as guests found that although the furnishings are dated the rooms and suites are kept clean, and most of the items provided are in full working order.

The standard of service from the reception through to housekeeping is high, with staff responding to customers in a friendly and efficient manner. Checking in and out is done quickly and smoothly, even on occasions when guests arrived before the stated check-in time. The manager was found to be professional, and special mention was made of the receptionist's helpful attitude.

Guests describe the rooms as spacious, and the beds as comfortable: the Wi-Fi works well. The shuttle services provided by the hotel attract favourable comment, as they helped visitors to make the most of their stay here.

Some guests felt they overpaid because the fitting and furnishings of the hotel are old and dated: stained and worn carpets are a big turn-off.

The lack of care and maintenance of the exterior lets the hotel down, several guests expressed dissatisfaction with this aspect, and a certain amount of apprehension as to what small wildlife "critturs and varmints" had checked into the unkempt grounds.

Some of the rooms allocated to guests displayed considerable lack of proper maintenance: a lavatory paper holder hanging off the wall, holes patched in walls, a TV remote wrongly assembled, ceiling lights missing their covers, and a flooding shower were some of the items mentioned. Overall, is seems a shame that this hotel has been allowed to deteriorate, and does not give proper support to the efforts of the staff and manager.
