Boutique Hotel Gavea Tropical (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

This hotel is ideal for those looking for a private, romantic, tropical getaway away from the hustle and bustle of tourist-filled streets but still close to the city. Situated amidst the Atlantic Forest, the hotel is surrounded by beautiful jungle-like vegetation, and the hill-top location yields to some incredible views. Almost all rooms have direct views of Christ the Redeemer, Sugar Loaf Mountain, and Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.

Don't miss out on the complimentary breakfast. Fortunately, you may not have to set an alarm clock for it - it's said to be served till midday. Guests were quite impressed with the buffet selection, which features a wide variety of foods, both hot and cold, and plenty of fresh fruit and just-baked goods.

Guests absolutely loved the outdoor pool and Jacuzzi tub. It's a perfect way to cool down during hot and sunny days, and an ideal end to a busy day out exploring.

The Villa Room has not left any good impressions on recent guests. With no balcony and no views, this option seems to lack all the benefits of staying at this hotel. Guests report that it is also more dated and poorly maintained, and has an unpleasant smell. Even though it is the cheapest option, it's not worth the money saved.

If you're planning on exploring the area a lot, you may need to consider renting a car, as the hotel is not in a very walkable area. Taxis are also said to be a good and reasonably priced alternative.
