Las Lajas Cathedral (Ipiales, Colombia)

Las Lajas Cathedral is near to the town of Ipiales in southern Columbia. It sits above and within the canyon of the Guaitara River. The style of the architecture is Gothic Revival and the cathedral was built between 1916 and 1949. It marks the spot where a young girl saw a vision of the Virgin Mary in 1754. In 1951 the Roman Catholic Church canonized the Nuestra Señora de Las Lajas virgin and the building was given the status of a minor basilica in 1954. The cathedral is accessible by local taxis
