Positive Reviews
positive:
Location is ideal.
You only need to step out of the hotel's front door to be amongst English Bay's numerous cafes, bars and restaurants, and to walk along the seawall where all the buskers and street artists perform each evening. Having downtown within an easy stroll is pretty awesome too.
positive:
Some truly wonderful views.
Because it is one of Vancouver's older hotels (built in 1912), the windows in the guest accommodations open nice and wide, affording you some truly great views over the city and waterfront. Watching the sun set from the lounge/bistro is also a real treat.
positive:
Staff make a real effort.
It's so refreshing to stay with a team of hotel workers who take such evident pride in everything they do. Polite, efficient and almost as charming as the hotel itself, the guys and gals working here are certainly worthy of all the praise they get. Wonderful service all round.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Interiors look a little tired.
Some guests have noted that, unlike most of the guest rooms which look fresh and clean, some of the hotel's public areas look a little fatigued in places.
negative:
Wi-Fi is inconsistent.
The hotel's Wi-Fi is another thing that has managed to irk some guests. If you're someone who needs to be online a lot of the time then this may be something you should look into before making a booking.
negative:
But that's about it..
Aside from the niggling issues highlighted above, there isn't much else of a negative nature to note about The Sylvia.
