positive:
Ski to your room.
While not directly on the mountain, guests of the River Mountain Lodge can take the four o'clock run and ski directly to the street across from the hotel. Add to that a free shuttle service to the ski gondola three blocks away, and you are all set to ski your heart out. Guests loved the riverside location with easy access to walking paths, museums and dining.
positive:
Friendly staff.
With the exception of a few staff members who seemed to be having a bad day, most were happy with their interactions with hotel personnel. The front desk were routinely on the ball with maintenance issues, and were generally pleasant upon arrival.
positive:
Relax and put your feet up.
From the outdoor hot tubs, to the intimate lounge, guests liked the unpretentious and laid back atmosphere of the lodge. After a long day of activity, guests looked forward to unwinding and drinking a hot chocolate by the fire, or lounging by the pool in hotter weather.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Beware of limited housekeeping.
If you fall on the messy side, or if you just like getting into a bed that you haven't made yourself for a change, this hotel may not be your top pick. Housekeeping is only offered on stays over one week, so you will be left to your own devices when it comes to keeping your quarters clean. Minor inconveniences like needing extra towels was also noted by some guests.
negative:
Cramped layout.
Depending on the accommodation you select, you may be left bumping into your roommates in cramped rooms that are poorly designed. Guests reported finding it hard to make coffee in certain kitchens, or felt rooms were designed for one bed instead of two, so choose your sleeping arrangements wisely.
negative:
In need of air-conditioning.
Visitors to River Mountain Lodge in the summer months might notice something critical is missing. Absent air-conditioning units made for unpleasant stays for some guests. While floor fans were provided upon request, guests were still sometimes left sweltering.
