If you're planning a cultured city break in Madrid, Gran Via is where it's at, and this hotel is perfectly positioned for easy access to the theatres, grand buildings and restaurants which abound here. There are several metro stations close by too.

Surely there's nothing better after a long day of sightseeing than heading to the roof terrace for skyline views, and slipping into a jacuzzi? That's exactly what the Senator offers, and it gets the thumbs-up from guests.

Guests are pleasantly surprised by the amount of space the rooms offer, especially given the city centre location. If you really want the wow factor, opt for a room with a terrace, for extra space and great views.

Despite its attractive array of facilities, many guests are disappointed by the overall feel of this hotel, which doesn't have the 4-star factor for them. The whole place is dated and parts are a bit run-down, so it's in desperate need of some renovation.

While the Wi-Fi is advertised as free, guests have found that there's an odd system of basic internet access, which doesn't actually allow for web browsing, at which point charges are applicable.

While some guests report a friendly welcome and good service, others say that the reception can be fairly abrupt, and that it's hard to get much in the way of local information and tips.
