The hotel has direct access to its own private beach which the guests found very convenient. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance and downtown San Diego is only a short drive away. If you like the idea of having the beach on your doorstep then you certainly won't be disappointed.

Guests enjoyed using the outdoor pools which were said to be immaculately presented and of decent size whilst the on-site bars were also said to be very lively and well-stocked with numerous beverages and tasty snacks. Those who visited the on-site spa said that they thoroughly enjoyed their treatments and would highly recommend them.

Many were impressed by the grandeur and old-world charm of the hotel including its lobby complete with cast-iron elevator. The dining rooms were also described as stylish and well-presented whilst the hotel's extensive gardens also left a lasting impression on the guests.

The hotel is a popular venue for private parties and guests reported that the level of noise from the function rooms and the bar in the evenings was often quite intrusive. Noise from helicopters which frequently fly over the hotel prevented many from getting a good night's sleep.

Guests who dined at the on-site restaurant said that there were too few staff for the amount of people that needed to be served and objected to waiting longer than expected to receive their orders.

Guests who stayed in the modern tower said that they had a bit of a walk from their rooms to the hotel lobby as well as the main facilities which were all located in the old part of the building.
