Positive Reviews
positive:
Location, Location
Panama Hotel is located in the heart of downtown Settle, in Old Japan Town. Guests loved the hotel's proximity to the Pike Place Market, and being walking distance to many galleries, stadiums, restaurants, bars, and shopping. In addition, the hotel is convenient to public transport, including the Amtrak Station.
positive:
Japanese Bathhouse
Guests genuinely were impressed with the onsite Japanese Public Bathhouse, called a Sento. It is the only Japanese bathhouse in the US still intact from its built date. There are a total of two marble baths for guests, with wooden lockers and hand-painted signs for added authenticity.
positive:
Warm Welcome
Look forward to receiving a warm welcome. The staff and owner at Panama Hotel are genuinely friendly, helpful and accommodating. You can tell they enjoy their work and take pride in the hotel. If you run into any problems, they will try resolve it in an efficient manner. If you need good suggestions on where to go, don't hesitate to ask, as the staff is very knowledgeable about the area.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Stairs to Street
There is no elevator onsite and even the lobby must be accessed via a set of stairs from the street. If you have a lot of luggage, you may find this a bit uncomfortable.
negative:
Antique and Aged
Despite the purposeful aged appearance, guests say some rooms look simply old instead of historic. Minor renovations or cosmetic touch ups, like adding extra outlets, would greatly improve the image. In addition, though Wi-Fi is provided complimentary, some guests thought it was too slow to use comfortably.
negative:
Noise
Though most guests did not have an issue with soundproofing, a few did mention hearing their neighbors or street traffic. If you're a light sleeper, it's a good idea to bring a pair of earplugs along as a precaution.
