Guests felt that this hotel, located in the SoMa district of San Francisco, was well-situated for walking and taking in the sights. The closest bus and cable car stops are 5 minutes from the Pontiac, and a BART rail system stop is about 10 minutes away.

Free breakfast and Wi-Fi was a big bonus for guests.The continental breakfast was reportedly good, with fresh items that were replenished regularly, and the Wi-Fi was fast and efficient.

Budget-minded travelers were happy to forego conveniences of larger hotels to spend their money elsewhere in San Francisco. Guests appreciated the hostel-like environment that allowed them to save money and meet fellow travelers from around the world.

Guests found rooms to be small and sometimes noisy. Rooms overlooking 6th Street were not favorable, and guests complained of both pedestrian and car traffic interfering with their sleep.

Some guests were taken aback by the rough neighborhood where the Pontiac is located. Street people, a needle exchange station across the street, and a caged-in front desk with buzz access, meant several guests were scared to walk outside at night.
