Nice views from the rooms
It seems that all the rooms look out over the golf course. Guests did appreciate this design feature, and were certainly happy they were not looking out over an alleyway or a neighbourhood Tesco's.
Positioned to make the most use of the lovely views over the golf course, Midgley Lodge offers guests cosy accommodation in a newer purpose-built property. Rooms have a bit of a country feel to them, and feature en-suite bathrooms, TV’s with satellite channels, tea/coffee stations, alarm clocks and telephones. The on-site nine-hole golf course is suitable for all levels, and is open to non-members. Wi-Fi is free of charge, and available throughout the lodge. The Black Bull Inn is on-site and offers drinks and hearty fare in a great atmosphere. It has a huge outdoor terrace overlooking the fairways, which is a terrific place to set yourself up when the weather is fine. Midgely Lodge is just a short five minute drive from the M1’s J38/39 junction. Wakefield is 6.6 miles from the lodge, while Leeds is 17 miles to the north.

Unusually for a hotel review, a couple of guests specifically mentioned that they felt the rooms were very well soundproofed, at least against external noise and horizontal noise. There was some talk of hearing footsteps from above.
Again and again guests mentioned just how terrific the staff were. They were said to be genuinely friendly, and concerned that their guests had everything they needed during their stay.
Though it seems not actually to be owned and run by the hotel, the attached Black Bull Pub was said to have especially bad food on offer. Guests did not really go into specifics, except to say that it wasn't good, and also that the pub often closed very early, which they felt was a bit bizarre.
This was a fairly common observation. While guests did find the rooms quite comfortable, many went on to say that the décor was very dated, and didn't really do the lodge justice. In their minds only a pretty comprehensive revamp would improve the situation.
Unfortunately Midgley Lodge was not one if the rare exceptions - a hotel with terrific Wi-Fi. Several guests mentioned that the Wi-Fi was quite poor, and given to simply not working at all for long stretches of time.
