Positive Reviews
positive:
Superb central position
Of course it had to be the great central location that guests most appreciated about Mitsui Garden Kyoto Sanjo. They mentioned that, though it was a little far they could walk to the Imperial Palace and other attractions relating to the imperial period. Public transport and general amenities were also said to be very nearby.
positive:
Public baths too small
The hotel has public baths for men and women. While guests did appreciate having these on site, they were almost universally described as too small for the size of the hotel, leading to an uncomfortably crowded atmosphere.
positive:
Lovely and friendly staff
Guests couldn't seem to say enough good things about the hotel's staff. They were described as most welcoming and friendly, and seemingly always ready with a smile.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Exceptionally small standard rooms
This was by far the most common, and most serious, complaint. While certainly not a pod hotel, guests were nonetheless dissatisfied with the size of the rooms. Guests mention that some of the rooms were so small that even the bed had to be pushed against a wall.
negative:
Breakfast was far too expensive
While reviews of the quality of the breakfast were very mixed, and about evenly split, there was something of a consensus that it was overpriced. Considering that it was a reasonably standard buffet guests simply felt it wasn't worth the high price charged.
negative:
Uncomfortable pillows
This was a surprisingly common and specific complaint. Guests couldn't exactly explain what it was about them, but many found the pillows to be very uncomfortable.
