About The Blue Boar
The old English pub, The Blue Boar Inn, makes for cosy stopover – just a two-minute drive off the A46, about eight kilometres away from Shakespeare’s birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon. The tavern dates back to the early 17th century and is bursting with character and traditional features, including a glass-covered well in the bar.
Some of the stone-walled en-suite bedrooms also feature wooden-beamed ceilings. Family rooms with adjoining bedrooms are available whilst tea and coffee making facilities are provided in all rooms.
The Blue Boar Inn provides complimentary Wi-Fi throughout and plentiful parking space for guests to leave their vehicles.
A fresh selection of traditional food is available in the restaurant section, complemented by a selection of snacks on offer in the bar area.
Stratford Racetrack is about a ten-minute drive from the inn. Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and the Bidford Grange Country Club are also only six kilometres away.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Nice breakfast
Despite some complaints about other meals in the restaurant, the majority of guests seemed to enjoy breakfast. The fact that it is included in the room rate is a bonus. Plus, guests also mention that the dining area is pleasant with period features.
positive:
Reasonable room rates
Despite some concerns about the quality of the accommodation, guests tend to find the room rates at the Blue Boar Inn reasonable. The freebies such as Wi-Fi, parking and breakfast help to add value for guests who otherwise rated their experience as fairly average.
positive:
Attractive setting
Guests enjoy the setting of the inn, with some mentioning that their stay provided an authentic countryside pub experience. Although there's little to do in the immediate area, guests appreciate the surrounding countryside and easy access to the likes of Warwick and Worcester.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Complaints about restaurant
Although guests tend to enjoy the breakfast, the feedback about other meals in the restaurant is far more mixed. Reviews indicate concerns about food quality, poor presentation and lengthy waits between courses. Of course, some guests enjoyed their dining experience but the quality does seem inconsistent.
negative:
Issues with rooms
The general opinion of the rooms at the Blue Boar Inn seems to be that they are below average quality. Many guests found the decor very dated and others highlight issues such as mould and rust in the bathrooms and a lack of thorough cleaning throughout.
negative:
Standard of service
Again, feedback about the standard of service is a little mixed. While some guests found the staff friendly, others were a little less impressed. Problems brought to the attention of the staff seem to be occasionally laughed off as insignificant.
