                            About Chittorgarh 
The Chittor Fort or Chittorgarh is one of the largest forts in india . it is a UNESCO world
Heritage site . the fort was the capital of Mewar and is located in the present –day town of
Chittor. It sprawls over a hill 180m(590.6 ft)in height spread over an area of 280 ha (691.9
acres)above the plains of the valley drained by the Berach River. The fort precinct of has
several historical palaces, gates, temples and two prominent commemorative towers.
Beginning in the 7 th century, the fort was controlled by the mewar kingdom. From the 9 th to
13 th centuries, the fort was rued by Paramara dynasty. In 1303, the Turkic ruler of Delhi,
Alauddin Khalji defeated Rana rattan singh’s forces at the fort. In 1535 Bahadur shah, the
Sultan of Gujarat, defeated Bikramjeet singh and took the fort. In 1567 Akbar defeated
Maharana Udai singh II’s troops. The fort’s defenders sallied forth to charge the attacking
enemy but yet were not able to succeed. Following these defats, the women are said to

 Geography
Chittorgarh, located in the southern part of the state of Rajasthan, 233km (144.8mi) form
ajmer, midway between delhi and Mumbai on the nationalhighway 8 (india) in the road
netwoek of Golden Quadrilateral. Chittorgarh is situated where National Highwaya No.
76&79 intersect.

The fort rises abruptly above the surrounding plains and apread over an area of 2.8km2
(1.1sq mi). the fort stands on a hill 180m (590.6ft) hight.
it is situated on is situated on the left bank of the berach river (a tributary of the Banas
River) and is linked to the new town of chittorgarh (known as the ‘lowen’) developed in the
plains after 1568 adartillery in the 16th century, located on the eastern flank of aravalli hill
range. Mughal Emperor Akbar attacked and sacked this fort which was but one of the 84
forts of mewar, but the capital was shifted to Aravalli hills where heave artillery& cavalry
were not effective. A windinghill rood of more then1km (0.6mi) length from the new town
leads to the west end main gate , called Ram pol, of the fort. Within the fort, a circular road
provides access to all the gates and monuments located within the fort walls.
The fort that once boasted of 84 water bodies has only 22of then now. These water bodies
are fed by natural catchment and rainfall, and have a combined storage of 4 billion litres that
could meet the water needs of an army of 50,000. The supply cold last for four years. These
water bodies are in the form of ponds, wells.

 Vijay Stambh (victory Tower) chittorgarh
This tower was built by Rana kumbha to Commemrte his victory over mahmub khilji of
malwa in 1440 A.D. this 37 mtr high tower is 9 storeyed and has monuments within the fort.
 Kirit stambh (tower of famr) chittorgarh
The 22mtr high tower of fame was built was by a wealthy jain merchant in the 12 century
A.D. and is dedicated to adinathji, the first of tirthankaras. The tower is decorated with jain
pantheons.
 Rana kumbha palace chittorgarh
The palace is another popular Tourist attraction in chittorgarh. The palace was the site of
the last jauhar, when Akbar attacked chittor. The palace houses a beautiful shiva temple
and the royal stable.
 Fateh prakash palace chittorarh

You can also visit fates prakash, palace, which was built by maharaja fateh singh in 1920.
Built beautifully, the palace now has been converted into the government museum.
 Gaumukh Reservoir
Gaumukh Reservoir Reservoir is located near the Mahasati chowk. The water from a spring
flowas through a stone structure carved in the form of a cow’s moust (called ‘Gaumukh’) into
the reservoir. The area around thish place is very soothing and offers beautiful views of the
fort walls and the city below.

There are many Hindu and jain temples within the fort. Kumbh shyam temple, which was
coclosurs. Constructes in 1448 AD, and meera temple are in the same enclosure. The jain
sat bis Deori was constructed in the 11th century. There is also a Kalika mata temple which
was originally a sun temple and was reduilt in the middle of the 16th century

 Sanwariaji Temple, Chittorgarh
Sanwariaji Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is located in Mandaphia in the North-
Western Indian state of Rajasthan. Mandaphia is about 40 kilometres away from the city of
Chittorgarh and falls on the Chittorgarh-Udaipur Highway. Because of its location, devotees
visit the temple in large numbers while commuting between Chittorgarh and Udaipur. The
resplendent temple complex is a beautiful work of architecture and adorns colourful

paintings and carvings that tourists find quite mesmerizing. The deity is also known as Shri
Sanwariaji Seth and is believed to be of immense importance for merchants and traders
who offer their prayers to gain success and wealth in their businesses. Stories about striking
gold from nowhere all because of the blessings of the deity are usually heard in the region.
It, therefore, ranks second on the list of religiously important temples dedicated to Lord
Krishna for the Hindu community.
The Sanwariyaji temple complex is a beautiful structure built in pink sandstone. The idol of
the deity is a statue made of black stone depicting the dark skin tone of Lord Krishna. Other
than this temple, there are some more temples around Chittorgarh - Mandapiya Sanwariaji
Temple, Bhadsoda Chouraha Sanwariaji Temple and Bhadsoda Sanwariaji Temple. 
According to a legend, Bholaram Gurjar, a milkman, once dreamt of three statues being
buried in Bhadsoda-Bagund. When he shared the details, the villagers started looking for
the statues at the located Bholaram has dreamt of and they found statues of Lord Krishna.
Two of the statues were installed in two different locations (Mandaphiya and Bhadsoda)
while one was kept where it was found (Bhadsoda-Bagund). Temples were then built at the
locations in honour of Lord Krishna. Devotees from all over the world flock to the temple to
offer prayers for all their wishes to come true.

 Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary

Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary near  Bassi  in  Chittorgarh
district  of Rajasthan, India, 5 kilometres from the  Bassi Fort Palace . It covers an area of
15,290 hectares and was established in 1988. The sanctuary is located on the western
border of the Vindhyachal Ranges and includes the Bassi and Orai dams are part of the
sanctuary. Antelope, wild boar, panther, mongoose and migratory birds inhabit the
sanctuary.

Jackal, Crocodile, Crane, Wild cat, Civet,Chinkara, Panther, Spotted deer (Chital), Peacock,
Porcupine, Hyena, Langoor, Fox, Blue bull ,Wild Boar, Eagle, Hare, Ghoda wild horse.

 Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary
Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the district of Pratapgarh in the north-
west Indian state of Rajasthan. It is a dense forest area with thick deciduous
plantations that include trees like Gulmohar, Sindoor, Rudraksha, Bamboo, Bel,
etc. Botanists have spotted 108 medicinal herbs in the sanctuary out of which
about 17 are endangered ones. The rivers Sitamata, Budho, Tankiya, Jakham
and Karmoi flow through the sanctuary along with several other water bodies
providing a continuous supply of water to the fauna and flora in the region.
According to a Hindu legend, the Valmiki Ashram was located in this forest. It is,
therefore, called the Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary. The area also has a temple
dedicated to Goddess Sita. Archaeologists have spotted several rocks that have
carvings have prehistoric animals. The sanctuary is thus considered to be of
immense historical importance also. 
The abundantly lush sanctuary expands over an area of 423 square kilometres
and was declared a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1979. It is an interesting amalgamation
of three different formations - the Vindhyachal Hills, the Malwa Plateau and the
Aravali Hills. One can find Leopards, Flying Squirrel, a variety of reptiles, Wild
Boar, Spotted Deer, Neelgai, Hyenas, Chousingha, Four Horned Antelopes, etc.
in the wilds. Bird watchers often visit the sanctuary to observe birds like the
Egret, Owls, Herons, Rubby Shelduck, Eagles, Vultures, Peafowls, Purple
Moorhen, Saras Cranes, Common & Wood Sandpiper, Quails, Pigeons, Black
Winged Stint, Cotton Teal, etc. The Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary is a treat for
nature lovers and animal enthusiasts. Photographers can capture the wildlife of
Rajasthan and have a great time exploring the sanctuary.
