positive:
Squeaky clean, spacious, and comfortable...
Recent travelers rave about the freshly remodeled suites: the comfortable sectional sofas, very large flat-screen televisions, high-end bedding, and full-sized stainless steel appliances are the highlights for most. The word "spotless" comes up in many a review, both in regard to the rooms and the inviting common areas, including the pool.
positive:
Cheerful, professional staff...
The reception staff have earned many glowing reviews for their professional, friendly, and accommodating customer service. Hungry guests generally give the breakfast buffet high marks for quality and variety, and many enjoy the evening social hour, too.
positive:
You can't see the ocean, but...
SoCal Sports Complex is right across the street, and several casual restaurants share a parking lot with the hotel. Many travelers like the hotel's inland setting because it is quiet at night, and it's a popular base for trips to Oceanside Beach, Carlsbad, and Legoland, all within a short drive.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Where there's smoke...
Though the property has a no-smoking policy, some guests have been bothered by cigarette smoke by the pool or bbq pit, and were disappointed in the staff's response to the issue.

What's in a name?
Some guests have been annoyed to discover that despite its name, the hotel is actually some distance from San Diego. The drive takes about 40 minutes or more in heavy traffic, which seems to be common.
negative:
Going to the dogs...
Allergy sufferers should note that the hotel is pet friendly, and popular with dog owners. A few guests have been dismayed to find (presumably canine) hair on the sofa or other places that evaded the vacuum. However, pet free rooms are available.
