While the Downtown Erie Hotel is reportedly in a rough neighborhood, most past guests found the accommodation's location to be its biggest positive. Both the Waldameer Park & Water World and Presque Isle State Park are a relatively short drive away, while the Bayfront District is within walking distance from the hotel.

One of the few positives about the hotel is that it provides on-site parking free of charge. In addition, there have been very little reported problems with the parking space.

Although some former guests have stated that the staff was unfriendly, the majority opinion is that the customer service at the Downtown Erie Hotel is satisfactory.

The Downtown Erie Hotel's rooms have been lambasted by virtually all past visitors. One aspect that has been condemned from all quarters is the worn down state of the rooms. A small sample of problems reported includes the television not working, low water pressure with the showers and a general state of distress with the décor.

The lack of cleanliness at the hotel has been a big issue for nearly every previous guest. Bed bugs, litter, pungent smells and unclean bathrooms are just some of the regular criticisms when it comes to the accommodation's poor hygiene levels.

Former visitors have noted that a number of facilities at the Downtown Erie Hotel have been out of commission during their stay. This includes the swimming pool not being open, the elevator being temperamental, the ice machine being broke and the Wi-Fi lacking in strength.
