Perhaps the biggest compliment was not one made directly. In their reviews an astonishing number of guests mentioned that they had often stayed at the hotel previously and intend to do so in the future. More than any other factor, this seems to indicate that they were very satisfied with their stay.

Guests in rooms facing the river reported that they offered some great views of a Mississippi River that was certainly mighty at that point. They found it very restful to be able to gaze out over the river.

Guests who passed by the reception area in the afternoons were delighted to discover that the hotel had warm and freshly baked cookies available. It was a small gesture, but one that went a long way with hungry guests biding their time between lunch and dinner.

A number of non-smoking guests were unhappy with the smoking policies in general. They reported that their non-smoking room somehow mysteriously smelled like it had very recently been occupied by a smoker. They also mentioned problems with smoke in the hallways and at the entrance to the building.

A number of guests were surprised to be reporting that they found the interior of the hotel to be in poor shape. The general feeling was that, though it was clear the interior wasn’t really all that old, it certainly wasn’t aging very well.

Guests did not think very highly of the complimentary breakfast offered, saying it was far too simple to generate any sort of enthusiasm.
