Positive Reviews
positive:
Location is very nice for exploring the city
The hotel is in a really great location for using it as a base to explore the city's attractions and local markets. There are a good number of hotspots and restaurants within a few minutes of walking and transport, so getting to everything is pretty simple.
positive:
Staff are very friendly and quite helpful
Guests like the staff at Mermaid Bangkok. They're polite, friendly, and always with a smile. You can learn a lot about the city from them, and what's the popular things to do and see. They're also quite attentive, and readily available for carrying luggage, directions, and whatever you need during your stay.
positive:
Comfy and clean rooms well meet expectations
Rooms are spacious, spotless, and sufficiently laid out to give you walking space, and space to lay out belongings. The way that they look and the ambience they present meet expectations, and often become a favorite place to return to upon future trips.
Negative Reviews
negative:
Hotel is not as family friendly as it would seem
Not everyone thinks that the hotel comfortably feels like a family friendly place to stay. Transient and suspicious guests are seen checking in and checking out, or overheard in the hallways. Many would prefer that more attentive security was implemented.
negative:
Food isn't particularly good, even for breakfast
The menus disappoint, with prices too high, and offerings too bland, unoriginal, or not fresh. Nothing is memorable, and even the breakfast fails to be anything worth having onsite.
negative:
Thin walls make you feel like no privacy
All sounds carry through the walls, which means that often it feels like there isn't any kind of physical separation between you and the staff and other guests. It's a let-down that the hotel couldn't construct better insulation and privacy.
