About Islazul Bruzón
Situated right on Revolution Square, in the commercial heart of Havana, Islazul Bruzon Hotel offers simple B&B accommodation to guest looking for a budget option.
The rooms are fairly basic, but furnished with some lovely antique pieces. Each features en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, satellite TV and telephone.
Islazul Bruzon is a small budget hotel, so there are not many public facilities. There is parking for guests arriving by car and internet access is available in the reception area.
There is a café on site that serves a Cuban breakfast, and some other meals. Hotel staff will also be happy to recommend the best local dining spots.
Revolution Square, with its iconic mural of Che Guevara, is just steps away from the hotel. Otherwise, the surrounding streets offer much of interest, from their vibrant street life to the odd glimpse of vintage cars from the 1950’s, before the revolution.
Positive Reviews
positive:
Very friendly and helpful staff
While guests did seem to have problems with the hotel, they also mentioned that most of the staff were quite friendly, and easy to get along with. There were no complaints about language issues, but perhaps most could speak a bit of Spanish. Guests also mentioned that the staff were quite prepared to help them out a bit with local information.
positive:
Good breakfast
The breakfast buffet offered at the hotel was said to be quite good, consisting of a wide variety of Cuban dishes which guests found very tasty, with more than enough food to set them up for the day.
positive:
Close to the bus station
It was mentioned that Havana's main bus station was very nearby, which opened up the possibility of easy independent travel to much of the rest of the country.
Negative Reviews
negative:
A bit far from Old Havana
While the location of the hotel is indeed central, its more in the commercial centre of Havana, an area guests said held very little interest for tourists. Their main focus was Old Havana, which was some four miles away. While they could easily get there and back by taxi, many said that the drivers were especially likely to rip tourists off.
negative:
Some questions about safety
Some questioned not only the safety of the surrounding streets, but of the hotel and their rooms as well. They spoke of being afraid to walk in the surrounding streets, at risk of being mugged, and also of money stolen from their hotel room itself.
negative:
The rooms were quite basic
It was mentioned that the rooms were extremely basic, with little to catch the eye. They were definitely nothing like the rooms at Cuba's newer resorts, but rather seemed to be severely affected by the embargo.
